Willis Jackson, Jr., 82, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Marshall Manor in Midland.
Funeral services for Willis will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, March 17th at 2 p.m. with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. Interment will follow in the Chippewa Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 16th from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Marshall Manor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Willis was born on November 4, 1927 in Midland, the son of Willis, Sr. and Elizabeth (Williams) Jackson. He married Josephine Davis on January 25, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant. Willis received military honors while serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Continental Can in Midland for 10 years and in the Service Maintenance Department at the Central Michigan University Motor Pool for 22 years until he retired. After his retirement, Willis worked as the maintenance supervisor for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe Soaring Eagle Resort for 7 years. Willis also served as Tribal Chief for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe from 1964 to 1973 and was a member of the Tribal Counsel for 12 years. Willis was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, the Chippewa Indian Methodist Church, and the American Legion Post 110.
Willis is survived by his wife, Josephine; children, Guy Jackson (Kristien Reeves), Orville Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Mary (Timothy) Prescott, all of Mt. Pleasant; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and brother, Richard "Yogi" Jackson of Mt. Pleasant.
Willis was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Barry Jackson in 1980 and Jeffrey Jackson in 2009; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.
