Services: A celebration of John's long life will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Gymnasium with Rev. Charlie Nahwegahbo officiating. Following the funeral service, interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Rosebush, Michigan beside his wife Nellie. Friends may gather with the family after 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 19 at the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church and again on Monday. On Tuesday, December 21, friends may gather at the Tribal Gymnasium for the 2 p.m. service.

John Jackson, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Friday, December 17, 2010 at his home. John was born on May 19, 1931 at Waupeau Island, Ontario, Canada, the son of Albert and Melvina (Peters) Jackson. He married Nellie Peters on June 20, 1981 in Mt. Pleasant. Nellie preceded John in death on February 10, 1998.
John enjoyed going to camp meetings, driving his truck and traveling. He was one of the very few who spoke their native tongue fluently. John was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, and a member of the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church. John worked building trailers for a period of time, and for twenty five years he worked for Utterback and then Hubscher & Sons where he operated a gravel crusher. He then worked for three years for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe in Security.
John is survived by his daughters, Louise A. Hunt, Susan K. Bettistea, Cynthia R. Quigno and Lindy M. Hunt, sons Lavern (Ruth) Pelcher, Duane R. Pelcher and a brother Silas Jackson, along with nineteen grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Nellie M. Jackson, both parents Melvina and Albert Jackson, brother Amos Jackson and a sister Elsie Stores.
