Opal H. Ramsey, 91, passed away at her home in Kalkaska on January 23, 2011. She was born on November 4, 1919 in Wheeler to the late William and Melinda (Pontiac) Green.
Opal married Howard Ramsey on March 17, 1942 in Kalamazoo. She and Howard moved to Kalkaska in 1945 and together they raised 10 children. Opal was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Mt. Pleasant and enjoyed riding in her car and taking trips with the tribe. She attended New Life Assembly of God Church. Opal loved sewing and crocheting.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Lila) Ramsey of Kalkaska, Carolyn (Frank) Prentice of Kalkaska, Gale "John" Ramsey of Illinois, Bonny (Jim) Prentice of Kalkaska, Dorothy McCauley of Kalkaska, Jerry (Julie) Ramsey of Manistee, and Barb Przybylski of Kalkaska; her siblings, Violet Zeeryp of Marion, Celia Oswabin of Mt. Pleasant, and Bruce Hinmon of Mt. Pleasant; and 83 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Opal was preceded by her parents; her husband, Howard; her children, Joan Y. Waltz, Howard Ramsey, Jr., and Jack Ramsey; and 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Services for Opal will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska at the chapel with Pastor Ron Janiszewski of New Life Assembly of God officiating.
