David Gordon Smith, 68, of Mount Pleasant passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Woodland Hospice House.
Funeral services for David will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 4th at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Robert Pego officiating. Interment will follow in the Denver Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 4th from noon until the time of service.
David was born on August 2, 1944 in Mount Pleasant, the son of Gordon Obadiah Smith and Cecilia Marie Turcotte. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from General Motors in Flint after 30 years of service. David was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and a proud member of A.A. for 33 years. He enjoyed playing pool with his brothers, basketball with his nephews, fishing, playing cards, bicycling and camping.
David is survived by his children: Davina and Tommy Key of Mt. Pleasant, Jennifer Jones of Flint, Michelle Pierce of Flint, Samantha Smith of Midland, Jessie Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Isabella Smith of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren; Devin Smith, Tommy Smith, Dominique Key, Tristin Key, Matthew Pierce, Larion Jones, Skyler Smith; great-grandchildren: Amir Bates, Devin Smith Jr., Tommy Smith Jr., Tyler Smith, and Kaylee Pierce; brother and best friend, Abraham, brothers: James, and Joseph Smith; sisters: Delores Drews, and Faith Davis and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Tommy Key and Carol Koteles.
David is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Harold, Daniel, Timothy and Samuel; sister, Ruth Cummins; special nephew, Ronnie Grandy-Smith; niece, Diane Drews; and great-nephew, Demecio Powell.
