The Saganing Outreach Center recently celebrated a 10-year milestone commencing the strong foundation for a new beginning.
Tribal member Don Nelson has assumed the position of director upon the resignation of Arlene Molina after 14 years of dedication.
"I am excited about my new position here and I want to expand the services that we offer at the center," Nelson explained.
Continuing Molina's efforts to better serve the community, Nelson carries on the goal of obtaining a larger center.
"I know that the staff and myself can meet these goals and continue to offer new services as the center grows."
Serving as secretary to Substance Abuse Counselor Harvey Bennett in 1990, Molina and Bennett worked out of her home as there was no existing center.
The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe purchased a 12' by 60' trailer that same year to serve as the Outreach Center. Molina became director in 1993, and the current building was put in place in August of 1994.
The center hosts a number of cultural workshops, health clinics, celebrations and feasts for youth to Elders. As the culture and community grow stronger there is a need for extended spacial arrangements.
"I am proud to be employed by the Tribe," Nelson said. "I will work to my full potential to serve the Saganing community."
