Several Saginaw Chippewa Tribal youth are participating in this year's Summer Youth Corps Program. The annual seasonal program is a chance for the youth ages 14-18 to obtain job experience with various Tribal departments.
"The program is an excellent opportunity for the youth to help out with the departments and make a difference in the workplace," stated Summer Youth Corps Program Coordinator John Johnson. Johnson has overseen summer youth activities for seven years.
Assistant Coordinator Kehli Henry is also part of the popular program. Crew leaders this year are Mira Henry, Mike Phillips and Christa Zawaideh. They are in charge of placing the workers in their respective departments, keeping track of their time, organizing training opportunities and conflict resolution.
Summer youth corps workers have been placed within the following departments: Firefly, Siniikaung Steak and Chop House, Human Resources, Hiring and Recruitment, Housing Authority, Information Technology, Parks and Recreation, Seventh Generation, Ziibiwing Cultural Society, Reservations, At-Large, Tribal Education, Tribal Fire, Soaring Eagle Resort Housekeeping, Tribal Operations Maintenance, Casino Administration and the Tribal Operations Switchboard.
