Candidates set for Jan. 7 special election

District 1 voters will have 10 candidates to select from to fill one Tribal Council seat in the Jan. 7 special election.

Candidates include Terry L. Bonnau, Delores K. Jackson, Steven J. Pego, Clinton R. Pelcher, Milton C. Pelcher (Beaver), David G. Perez, Mary Alice Perez, Dolly A. Rueckert, Carol Shanks and Amy Shawboose.

As of a Nov. 27 deadline, there are 586 registered voters in District 1, according to information from the Tribal Clerk's Office.

Philip Bergevin, Mary Hegyi, Consuelo Gonzalez, Sherry Hawkins and Linda Hudak were appointed to the Caucus Committee during the Dec. 3 regular session of Tribal Council.

Applications for absentee ballots were made available on Dec. 16. They are due back by 8 p.m. on Jan. 7.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Saginaw Chippewa Public Safety Building.
