Gift to Tribal Library
Joseph V. Sowmick - February 09, 2014
In an effort to provide bonus coverage, Team Observer joins with the SCIT Tribal Library and local Tribal Artist Alicia A. Genia in recognition of her recent gift of love to the Tribal youth and our community. “It was an honor to gift this medicine wheel to the Tribal Library community. I wanted to insure that the knowledge and oral customs and traditions of the teaching live on. In addition these are our ways that I hope will be respected and live on through our children and can be shared when you and your children visit the Tribal Library,” Genia acknowledged. “ A lifetime of teaching is learned through the medicine wheel. Each direction takes years to learn the knowledge for the direction; I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to learn … to gain the knowledge is power. The Tribal Library is waiting for you!” Tribal Education Librarian Anne Heidemann and her staff expressed their sincere gratitude for Alicia’s generous and thoughtful gift. It is now prominently displayed in the Tribal Library where all can see and appreciate it. Heidemann also informs there are many upcoming community events happening at the Tribal Library. “We are excited to be celebrating ‘Love Your Library Month’ throughout February. On Tuesday the 11th, we will have Valentine Card-Making program from 3-6pm, where we welcome folks to drop by to create a Valentine card or two. On the 14th we are delighted to welcome the community to our Tribal Library Open House from 11am-1pm,” Heidemann said. “We will offer light refreshments as well as cultural celebrations, door prizes, and a chance to see the enhancements made with the most recent round of grant funding for the library.” The festivities continue on Tuesday the 18th as the library staff invite kids of all ages to join them for Library Bingo from 4-5:30pm.
