Birthday memorial balloon release at the Housing Pavilion

Joseph V. Sowmick - August 09, 2014

In an effort to provide bonus coverage, Team Observer joins with Team Zane and the Saginaw Chippewa community in a birthday memorial balloon release at the Housing Pavilion on Saturday, August 9th.

“This was an awesome moment for us and for him to memorialize his life,” proud mom and Utilities Department Administrative Assistant Tonia Jewell informs.  “My son Zane was a Tribal Member who we lost to cancer late last year and our family and friends released balloons after what would have been his 17th birthday.”

Tonia’s sister and Zane’s Auntie, Council Treasurer Shelly Bailey was deeply moved by all the community support on behalf of the family.

“We would like to say thanks the Fire Department and Chief Cantu and Tribal Observer Editor Natalie Shattuck for sending your staff to help out with the awesome pictures and for accommodating our family’s request,” Shelly said.  “Also a special thank you to Tribal Council, the Tribal Community and Shepherd students and staff for all their assistance throughout our ordeal and situation with Zane.”
