Seventh Generation builds teaching lodge 11-02-15

Joseph V. Sowmick - November 02, 2015

In an effort to provide bonus coverage, Team Observer would like to give a shout out to the Seventh Generation Program and community volunteers who got together to construct a traditional Ojibwe Teaching Lodge.  The project started on Wednesday, October 21st and completed on October 22nd.

Administrative Assistant II for the Elijah Elk Cultural Center and Seventh Generation Program LeeAnn Ruffino informs staff members Lacey Mandoka, Ben Hinmon, Dawn Pelcher, Clinton Pelcher and Jose Gonzalez were honored to have the volunteers come out to assist.  “We built the lodge the way we were taught and we gathered the materials and constructed it in a good way,” Ruffino said.  “Our staff at Seventh Generation would also like to thank Chip Neyome for allowing staff and volunteers to harvest maple saplings from his property for the lodge.”

The Ojibwe Teaching Lodge can be seen at 7957 East Remus Road next to the ceremonial building where most of the Seventh Generation events take place.  A story on the lodge construction will be featured in the December issue of the Tribal Observer.
