Joseph V. Sowmick - February 12, 2016
In an effort to provide bonus coverage, Team Observer joined the Saginaw Chippewa Academy students, teachers and families at their January 2016 Student of the Month Celebration. Education Director Melissa Montoya gave a welcome address and recognized Tribal Council members Ronald F. Ekdahl, Kenneth Sprague, Candace B. Benzinger, Amanda Oldman, Diana Quigno-Grundahl and Tribal Sub-Chief Brent D. Jackson in attendance.
“Tribal Council recognizes the example these young ones are making for their peers. The leadership shown by each one of the students this morning was impressive and sets the example for other students to follow,” Jackson said. “We are very proud of our youth and on behalf of Council we say congratulations to the students and keep up the good work.”
The Mino Ode Singers offered a welcome song and an Honor Song for the following student recipients: Pre-K Levi Pelcher, Kindergarten Duane Sheahan, 1st Grade Azhiyen Wemigwans, 2nd Grade Charles Trepanier, 3rd Grade Martine Wiggins, 4th Grade Raymond Pelcher, 5th Grade Tavia Kahgegab and 6th Grade Simon Jackson. The celebration concluded with a blessing for the gathering and breakfast from SCA Anishinabe Biimaadziwin Teacher Joe Syrette in Anishnaabemowin.
