Nimkee Fitness Park Construction 5-18-16
Joseph V. Sowmick - May 24, 2016
In an effort to provide bonus coverage, Team Observer joined with the Nimkee Fitness Center and the SCIT Public Works Department as construction has begun May 18 on the first phase of their Fit Park. Nimkee Fitness Coordinator informs that last July our SCIT community were the winners of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tribe to Tribe Walking Challenge and the Fit Park concept was born.
“Through various suggestions from our fitness members we decided to develop some ideas for an outdoor Fit Park that would go in the East Nimkee lawn. The vision of the Fit Park was that it would include fitness stations and an obstacle course,” Harman said. “It was our goal to create innovative stations that help create a fun fitness experience and adherence to exercise. We also took into consideration to create stations for different fitness levels.”
Harman hopes the addition of the Fit Park will give Nimkee Fitness staff the opportunity to extend and improve fitness services through outdoor exercise for our community and fitness members. “We are currently putting in a few stations at a time. The multilevel pull-up bars and suspension station being the first two. I would like to personally thank Judy Davis and Robyn Grinzinger from the Public Health Department,” Harman said. “These two ladies organize, coordinate, and encourage the SCIT team that participate in the BC/BS Tribe to Tribe Walking Challenge. Without these ladies and the efforts of all the members of the SCIT team we would not be able to improve and implement these projects for our community.”
Harman also extended a personal thank you to Barry Skutt, Tim Walraven and the Tribal Public Works Department staff for their expertise in developing and constructing this project. Please see the attached layout and note the other stations that will follow. A full story will be featured in the upcoming issue of your Tribal Observer.
