SCTC Holds 4th Annual Alumni Luncheon
Joseph V. Sowmick - July 05, 2016
Team Observer was on location at the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College campus for the June 28 4th annual SCTC Alumni Luncheon. Past SCTC Alumni joined SCTC President Carla Sineway with college faculty and administrative staff in attendance as Sineway gave a brief history of the land grant institution. Current SCTC STEM Recruiter and former SCTC Alumni Kathy Hart mentions attending SCTC has given her the support, encouragement, and skills to move forward with her education.
“Without the Tribal college I probably would not be where I am today. Education is the key to success. It is definitely needed for professional and personal growth,” Hart said. “SCTC gives people that opportunity and hopefully in the near future we will have a campus that we can call our own and be proud of. Along my educational journey, I have made a lot of friends and gained a new family with staff and students.”
Part of Hart’s responsibilities as SCTC STEM Recruiter is to create an interest in STEM and get students involved in the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC). “I started the STEM/AIHEC club back up. This past year we had 20 students attend AIHEC competing in several different competitions,” Hart said. “ SCTC Science Bowl students took third place out of 18 teams competing which was a great accomplishment. This summer is the second year students have held STEM summer camp for younger children in our community.”
