Behavioral Health Summer Spruce Up
Joseph V. Sowmick - June 30, 2016
Team Observer was onsite to cover a true team effort happening June 29 at the Behavioral Health Program’s complex.
SCIT Behavioral Health staffers were shoulder-to-shoulder along with the summer youth workers and the Maintenance Department as they did a summer “spruce up” at their 2800 S. Shepherd Rd. location.
Behavioral Health uses the Anishnaabemowin phrase “Nog-da-win-da-meg” which means “taking care of one another.” Administrator David Garcia got to see first-hand how that phrase was put into action today.
“A lot of good spirits and energy were put in along with some hard teamwork. With a massive show of support from a lot of departments, we were able to renew and revitalize some of our outside entrances,” Garcia said. “We even made some improvements to the cultural landscape we have at Behavioral Health. We did a cleansing and full re-working of the Medicine Wheel designs and the Eagle Feathers outside the building along with trimming trees and shrubs. It was an amazing team effort to watch and take part in.”
All the workers enjoyed a hearty lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers along with plenty of water for doing their labor of love.
