Team Observer joined with the Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center and the REACH Journey to Wellness grant hosted their “Wear Red Fit & Fashion Night” on February 28. Brandon Schultz, REACH Grant Coordinator from Nimkee Public health served as emcee for the event and appreciated all the community support.

“The annual “Wear Red Fit & Fashion Night” provided an opportunity for the community to be together and be mindful of the #1 cause of death in the US … cardiovascular disease,” Schultz said.  “The runway models honored many loved ones that have left us as a result of the disease or complications it imposes.”

Diana Quigno-Grundahl, Tribal Council Chaplain, shared a blessing before everyone enjoyed a rainbow of heart healthy buffet items prepared by Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Food & Beverage department.

Schultz also praised the youth that participated during the “Wear Red Fit & Fashion Night” held in the Soaring Eagle Ballroom.

“The young ones of families give us all a reason to pay attention to our choices. It was a wonderful evening filled with practical prevention strategies,” Schultz said.  “We had an exercise provided by Nimkee Fitness with a medicine theme along with a reminder to choose foods according to the colors of the rainbow.  “Nimkee Public Health Nurse Anna Hon was a hit with laugh yoga as people laughed away stress to end the night.”

Schultz informs one attendee put into words the approach he takes with the REACH Journey to Wellness grant.  “It’s nice to make important things fun!”
