Absentee ballots will be made available on Feb. 2. There are 704 registered voters in District 1, according to information from the Tribal Clerk's Office on Jan. 27. The special election is taking place due to the Dec. 5 resignation of Gerald Slater. His resignation came only three days after being sworn into office. He listed four reasons for his resignation which revolved around personnel matters.
If necessary, a run-off election is slated for Feb. 17. A March 2 swearing-in ceremony is also planned.
Chippeway, Davis, Ebright, George-Dye, George, Gonzalez, Hunt, Delores K. Jackson, Pego, Pelcher, Perez, Rueckert, Shanks and Sharp previously were candidates for the Oct. 14 primary election. Only Chippeway, Davis, George-Dye and Jackson advanced to the general election.
