Michigan voters approve proposal in 81 counties

Michigan voters approved Proposal 1-which sought voter approval for any form of gambling except for Indian gaming and the three casinos in Detroit-by a 58 percent margin.
Of the 4,587,264 ballots cast, 2,670,779 Michigan residents voted for the measure and 1,916,485 opposed. The constitutional amendment passed in 81 of 83 counties, failing in Calhoun and Ingham. In Calhoun County. In Calhoun County it was defeated by a slim 407 votes and in Ingham, an overwhelming 5,449 votes.
In Isabella County-the backyard of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan-Proposal 1 was approved by a 1,084-vote margin out of the 23,868 ballots cast.
Clare County voters approved the amendment 7,963-5,977 and Gratiot County 9,260-7,332.
