The following students from the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools were recognized during the Peacemaking Awards Ceremony on Jan. 23.
First grade: Wagabonese Graveratte
Second grade: Misheka Floyd-Vasquez, Angelica Green, Edmund Jackson, Warren Ricketts and Jeffrey Vasquez
Third grade: Cheyene Fallis, Maggie Jackson, Sydnee Kopke, Carols Salas and Andrew Vasquez
Fourth grade: Breanna Colwell and Bryton Stoneypoint
Fifth grade: Cameron Kole
West Intermediate: Demmie Hayes
Oasis: Carrie Johnson, Stephen Mini, Autumn Mitchell and Arnold Sowmick
These students found many ways to demonstrate peacemaking skills within their school environment. Their teachers, principals, school volunteers, parents and peers nominated them for this recognition for a variety of reasons from leading by example to standing up for their beliefs.
Peacemakers seek good and positive points where others do not, help others feel good about themselves and their efforts, as well as walk away from conflicts rather than fighting.
These students also make decisions based on evidence and seek common ground among diverse students. They also respect the opinions of others while listening, providing feedback and following through with calm, responsible thinking.
