The 15th Annual Human Race will take place June 14 at the Elijah Elk Cultural Center on the Isabella Reservation. The event is sponsored by the Seventh Generation Program, as well as the Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center's Public Health and Fitness Center programs.
The inaugural "Human Race Road Run" was conducted on Oct. 3, 1993. The event promotes cultural diversity and enhancing the community's unity toward sober lifestyles. Seventh Generation Program Director Milton "Beaver" Pelcher brought the race concept to Michigan after helping initiate the activity in Kansas many years ago.
Registration for the 15th Annual Human Race begins at 5:30 p.m., with the five-mile race starting about an hour later. A 2-mile fun/run/walk is also slated as part of the evening's events. A dinner will follow the races, plus an awards ceremony.
