Saginaw Chippewa Tribal member Sharon Berdan said she had never won anything in her life.
That is until July 2 when she received a phone call from Chief Maynard Kahgegab Jr. informing her that she had won the 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle for filling out a community survey regarding constitutional reform.
"I got a message that the chief called," she explained. "And I thought, why would the chief be calling me? I didn't do anything wrong.'"
The Port Huron resident picked up the bike a week later with the help of two of her three sons.
"I decided right off the bat to keep the motorcycle and decide later what I'm going to do with it. I don't want my three sons fighting over the motorcycle. It's just not worth it."
Despite having the lure of a prize for filling out the 30-question survey, Berdan said she would have completed it if nothing was offered in return.
"We come to all the meetings," she explained. "It's important to stay in touch with what is going on as a Tribal member."
