Candidates list posted; Tribal primary election to take place on Oct. 11

The primary election for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan will take place Oct. 11. The following is a candidates list with incumbents recognized by an asterisk*.

Nimkee “Saves Lids to Save Lives” in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Nimkee Public Health Assistant Judy Davis is collecting clean lids from Yoplait yogurt containers as an effort to find a cure.

“For each lid collected, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s Race for the Cure,” Davis explained.

Dikinaugan project focuses on family and prepares new parents

Native Americans have used dikinaaganan, cradleboards for hundreds of years.

While individual Tribes may use different materials, designs, and shapes, the cradleboard’s function was to protect, transport, and help with the bonding process between the mother and child.
