Every culture seeks to tell their story and here is ours. The Diba Jimooyung (Telling our Story) permanent exhibit tells the story of the original people of the Great Lakes.
Walking through the 15 areas of our exhibit, Diba Jimooyung teaches about our struggles to hold onto our land, language, and lifeways.
The Diba Jimooyung permanent exhibit offers programs for all ages to learn about the original people of the Great Lakes.
With this permanent exhibit, we have the privilege to honor the courage of our ancestors and grandparents, the promise of our youth, and the determination of our people.
This seasonal exhibit on the Ziibiwing Center grounds is available June through September.
With over forty different types of plants that were (and still are) traditionally used by the Anishinabek, this exhibit is a great learning opportunity for students of all ages. Each type of plant is labeled with its English (common) name and its name in our traditional Anishinabek language.
Stop by the Visitor Services Desk to borrow our Plant Walk Booklet with information on each plant and its uses.
Also, check out a pair of binoculars and head to our Bird Observation Point on the Southwest side of the building to see if you can spot any of the local bird population. Information on the birds in the area is on display there.
This beautiful changing exhibit gallery hosts various collections of art and artifacts from North America, including many of the items from our own extensive collections.
Among past exhibits have been items from the Cranbrook Institute of Science - Great Lakes Native American Collection, Standing Rock Solid - An Artistic Response to Threats to Our Land & Life, Healing Through Culture and Art - Shawl Collection, It Is Beautiful - Artistic Expressions of the Saginaw Chippewa, and They Work With Each Other - an exhibition of basketry from the collection of the University of Michigan.
See a new changing exhibit every year! Admission is complimentary with Permanent Exhibit admission.
